Day 12 Arcata to San Fran

Day 12 was one heck of a drive!
Started in Arcata, went through more redwoods,
US girls

Bundling up again for the cold ride

Had to drive through a tree for fun!

Then hit hwy 1. Let me say that hwy 1 from 101 is not for the faint of heart!
For those of you that have done the Oatman road to Kingman, Hwy 1 is 10 times worse!  Gus and Larry worked hard driving it!

We lost count on how many switchbacks!! Most of the road was going only 15 mph!

Then the wind kicked up!

1st sight of the Golden Gate bridge

Crossing the Golden Gate
We arrived at our hotel about 7pm.
San Fran traffic is crazy!  Ended up doing one major hill to get to hotel, but the guys handled it as the pros they are!!

I will add more pics and videos when I get home.
Now onto Morro Bay!

Day 10, Ocean shores Wa, to Coo's Bay Oregon

Woke up to 47 degrees and rain on the Washington coast.  Went down for breakfest then waited for the rain to stop.
Got going about 9:10 am, the sun was shining when we left, but the rain that was there had moved in the direction that we were going, so we drove right into it!  And of course we were not smart enough to put the rain gear on.  We got a little wet but not bad.

It seemed like we would never get out of the woods.  It was pretty and then we finally saw the coast again.

We also got to see the Heceta Head Lighthouse.
We finally got to Coos Bay about 6:30 and our friends Larry and Terri got there just before we did!  The had the yesterday with family.

Had a nice dinner at a steak house down the street and stayed up and talked till 12:15am!!
Tomorrow is the Redwoods!!!
350 miles driven today

Day 9, time to head home

Got up early to try to get an early start, got going about an hour later then hoped but that was ok.  Put the rain gear on as it looked like rain.  I loaded the route for the day on the gps and away we went!
Heading down I-5 I was thinking we should've been getting of the freeway soon, but it said to keep going.   Got all the way to about Tacoma and realized the gps overrode my uploaded route and went the "fastest" route.  To say I was not happy was an understatement, but the more we thought about it, we decided that maybe God was just taking us the safest route.  We did end up missing alot of rain going the way we did, but we did hit rain the last 40 miles.  The skies cleared as we got to Ocean Shores.
Cute little place on the pacific ocean.  Hotel is the Morning Glory inn, not too bad, ocean view room and good wifi.

We were very cold when we got there, but a trip to the hot tub and a long hot shower worked well.
Time to sleep and get going early tomorrow, 387 miles to Coos bay Oregon!

Day 8 last day in Bellingham

Gus is finely feeling better and I think we will be able to ride out of here tomorrow as planned!  He was pretty sick, a real bad chest cold.  Made for a not so fun time for him in Bellingham.  Had breakfest and stayed in today to have him rest up before going to the post for the romp meeting and dinner.

Went over at 3pm, met up with the gang and waited for the meeting to start.  They gave out a few awards and one was for the furthest distance traveled and our own Fred Doten won!
They then had a vote to see where the romp would be next year and it was unanimous to have it in Laughlin next year!   We are going to be crazy busy next year in June!  The romp and Department convention 2 weeks later!!!  But no worries, we will handle it in post 60 style!!

We had a nice dinner and said our goodbyes to the wonderful people at post 7 that did a awesome job hosting the romp this year!! We have big shoes to fill!!

Day 7 More rest and Cousins!

Thank goodness Gus is feeling much better today!!!  I was thinking through the night how we were going to get me and the bike home if he didnt get better fast!  I think we are going to be ok, He will rest again today while I work on a powerpoint presentation for the romp and other things.
We started the day by seeing Steven again and Cindy who Gus hasnt seen in about 45 years!!!   She looks and is doing great!  Had a great visit!!  Hope she will come visit us someday!
Gus and I rested in the afternoon and I got a powerpoint presentation done for a presentation Saturday at the romp for having the romp at our legion next year!
Had taco dinner at post 7 put on by the SAL.  Very good.
Went back to the hotel to meet with our group to go over presentation.
I am now trying to decide if I Should ride tomorrow without Gus.  He is not up to riding yet and needs to get well before Sunday when we leave.

Day 6, Rest and exploring

Today started with Gus feeling really rotten.  Bad chest cold, really bad cough.   So he stayed in bed and I went with Terri, Larry and Fred and explored downtown Bellingham and went to Anthonys for a late lunch. Had the best clam chowder and brought some back for Gus.

Came back to the room after lunch to check on Gus and he was still in bed.  Ended up going to the Legion with Terri, Larry and Fred again for a drink and to catch up with Terrill and Steph and the riders from post 8 Las Vegas.  I didnt stay long and came back and tried to sleep.

The Hotel Bellingham is very nice, bed is great, can walk to the Legion and close to everything you need.

We had coffee in the afternoon with Steven and David.  It was great to see them both!!
And a wonderful dinner with Steven and Ruth at Anthony's on the water.  They had rhubard desert also!  Um!!
We are hoping to still meet up up with Cindy today or tomorrow.

Day 3 is complete!

Day 3,
Made it safely to Winthrop Washington!  382 miles.
Staying at the Virginian Resort.  Very cute, right on the river where the Methow and Chewuch meet.

Idaho is pretty cool with lots of farm land and some really neat gorges!!  Washington was not was I was thinking,  alot of farmland and wide open spaces.  Went through tons of apple and cherry fields also!

Had dinner at the pizza place right next door, cant remember the name but very good.  Theresa and I tried the local wine and the boys had a local beer.

Getting ready for day 4 and the ride through the North Cascades National park and into Bellingham.!
